Silk and Spice Rising is a new pan-Asian performance arts festival and the first offering from Silk and Spice Arts, a Tongva/Los Angeles County area performance arts organization specializing in the celebration of the cabaret and nightlife arts.
Conceptualized in the spring of 2021 by Tas Al-Ghul (the executive producer of Vamptastic Productions), the Silk and Spice Rising festival will be a celebration of pan-Asian (AAPI/AAPIDA/AANHPI) cabaret and nightlife performance artists, centering artforms and social intersections that are not typically celebrated either within the community or by the world at large.
In terms of curation, all members of the pan-Asian (AAPI/AAPIDA/AANHPI) performance arts community are welcomed (including but not limited to: burlesque artists, drag artists, exotic dance artists, traditional dancers, pole artists, aerialists, sideshow performers, comics, magicians/illusionists, musicians, storytellers, etc) with priority given to community members who are Black Asian, black/kalo Asian, South Asian, plus size, trans, queer, and/or disabled.
Silk and Spice Rising is a hybrid event, with two live showcases taking place on Saturday 5/4 at The Crown Theatre in Pasadena and a virtual showcase that will premiere on Sunday 5/5 and will be available to stream until Sunday 5/12.

This live showcase pays homage to Jade Follies, which was SoCal's first ever pan-Asian burlesque and variety revue. Featuring sparkling talent from Southern California, co-curated by Jade Follies founder Miso Pretty.

This live showcase features a variety of performance artists from all across the AANHPIDA regions who will dazzle you with their myriad skills.
This virtual showcase is a celebration of the variety and cabaret arts featuring AANHPIDA performance artists from across the globe. Premieres Sunday May 5th, 2024 at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET. Available to stream from the evening of May 5th, 2024 through the evening of May 12th, 2024. Streaming link to be sent shortly prior to premiere time, via email.
